Two tankers berthed alongside each other in a narrow waterway with industrial facilities

Service

Navigational Assessment

Bridge practice, observed while it happens — and the paperwork behind it.

A combined navigational assessment covering both the dynamic and static sides: an assessor joins the bridge during an actual passage, pilotage or berthing operation, and separately reviews the passage plans, charts, certificates and records that underpin navigational practice.

Bridge resource management

Communication, cross-checking and challenge-and-response between officers and pilot, observed on watch.

Passage plan & execution

Berth-to-berth coverage, no-go areas and abort points, together with adherence to the planned route, fixing frequency, parallel indexing, ECDIS monitoring and the correction currency of paper and ECDIS folios.

Pilotage and berthing

Master/pilot exchange, speed and approach management, and use of tugs.

Certification & records

Navigational equipment certificates, survey status, deck and bridge logs, drill and testing records.

Findings are recorded against observed behaviour and documented evidence, and compiled into a short report highlighting strengths and areas for reinforcement ahead of a charterer or vetting inspection.
